KUALA LUMPUR 16 Sept. – Ketua Polis Negara, Tan Sri Musa Hassan berkata, kes seorang pembantu perikanan di Jabatan Perikanan Terengganu yang ditembak mati oleh penjenayah di Kampung Kokje, Tak Bai di Narathiwat, Selatan Thailand, semalam adalah kes terpencil.

Katanya, beliau telah mengarahkan pegawai polis dari Ibu Pejabat Polis Bukit Aman supaya menyiasat kejadian itu dan masih menunggu laporan rasmi dari polis Thailand.

‘‘Kerajaan Malaysia tidak pernah mengenakan sebarang sekatan atau menghalang sesiapa yang ingin pergi ke sana.

‘‘Tapi mereka yang pergi sana (selatan Thailand) perlu menjaga diri masing-masing,’’ katanya kepada pemberita selepas majlis penyerahan sumbangan RM120,000 daripada Syarikat DCHL kepada Yayasan Pencegahan Jenayah Malaysia (MCPF) bagi membantu program pencegahan jenayah, di sini hari ini.

Dalam kejadian kira-kira 2 petang waktu Malaysia semalam (pukul 1 tengah hari waktu Thailand), Che Ayub Yaakub, 51, bersama seorang penghulu warga Thailand, Yusuf mati ditembak oleh penyerang yang tidak dikenali, manakala isteri Yusuf hanya cedera ringan.

Menurut Musa, walaupun Che Ayub yang berasal dari Kampung Perupok Bachok, Kelantan itu seorang pegawai kerajaan, tetapi dia pergi ke tempat tersebut bukan atas urusan rasmi.

‘‘Pegawai kerajaan yang ingin pergi ke sana atas urusan rasmi perlu mendapat kelulusan dari pegawai atasan,’’ jelasnya.

Terdahulu dalam ucapannya Musa memberitahu, kelunturan semangat kejiranan sejak akhirakhir ini merupakan salah satu aspek yang menyumbangkan kepada peningkatan kadar jenayah di negara ini.

Menurutnya, masyarakat kini lebih bersikap mementingkan diri sehingga mengabaikan apa yang sedang berlaku di sekeliling mereka.

‘‘Jika dulu, sekiranya saya degil dan melakukan kesalahan, jiran saya akan memberitahu ayah saya dan akibatnya saya dirotan,’’ ujarnya.

Katanya, budaya mengambil berat antara satu sama lain itu telah berubah dan masyarakat hari ini lebih bersikap tidak mahu mengambil tahu apa yang berlaku di sekeliling mereka.

‘’Memang kami berkawan baik. Tetapi soal masa depan dan perkahwinan, bila sampai masanya saya akan bagi tahu.

‘’Yang pasti kami memang berkawan rapat. Insya Allah segalanya akan berjalan dengan baik,’’ katanya. Tak kisahlah Liza, janji kalau jadi kahwin nanti terus terang saja dengan Joyah. Bagi tahu orang siang-siang. Jangan kahwin lari sudahlah.

KUALA LUMPUR 18 Nov. - Digital Crown Holdings Ltd. (DCHL), pengedar produk kecantikan Lampe Berger dan Estebel dari Perancis, merancang untuk membuka beberapa butik spa baru di rantau Asia Pasifik pada tahun hadapan.

Buat masa sekarang, DCHL memiliki lima butik spa masing-masing satu di Taiwan, Singapura, Filipina, Thailand dan Indonesia.

Butik keenam pula akan dibuka di Malaysia pada bulan hadapan, kata Pengurus Negaranya, Sean Lim.

Menurut beliau, kos yang diperlukan untuk membuka sebuah butik spa adalah tinggi iaitu kira-kira RM2 juta justeru pihaknya perlu berhati-hati dalam memilih lokasi yang bersesuaian.

``Kami perlu lebih selektif bagi memastikan butik dan jenama produk kami diterima oleh masyarakat setempat,'' katanya.

Beliau berkata demikian kepada Utusan Malaysia ketika ditemui selepas majlis memperkenalkan 17 peserta Pencarian Duta Estebel di Menara HLA di sini hari ini.

Medicinal Uses and Indications

Although professional herbalists and aromatherapists use lavender to treat a variety of conditions (described later), clinical studies thus far have only demonstrated benefit for insomnia and alopecia (hair loss).

Insomnia
In folklore, pillows were filled with lavender flowers to help the restless fall sleep. There is now scientific evidence to suggest that aromatherapy with lavender slows the activity of the nervous system, improves sleep quality, promotes relaxation, and lifts mood in people suffering from sleep disorders. Studies also suggest that massage with essential oils, particularly lavender, may result in improved sleep quality, more stable mood, increased mental capacity, and reduced anxiety. In one recent study, participants who received massage with lavender felt less anxious and more positive than participants who received massage alone. Lavender flowers have also been approved by the Commission E in Germany as a tea for insomnia, restlessness, and nervous stomach irritations.

Alopecia areata
In one study of 86 people with alopecia areata (a disease of unknown cause characterized by significant hair loss, generally in patches), those who massaged their scalps with lavender and other essential oils daily for 7 months experienced significant hair re-growth compared to those who massaged their scalps without the essential oils. It is not entirely clear from this study whether lavender (or a combination of lavender and other essential oils) was responsible for the beneficial effects.

Other
Aromatherapists also use lavender as a tonic in inhalation therapy to treat headaches, nervous disorders, and exhaustion. Herbalists treat skin ailments, such as fungal infections (like candidiasis), wounds, eczema, and acne, with lavender oil. It is also used externally in a healing bath for circulatory disorders and as a rub for rheumatic ailments (conditions affecting the muscles and joints). One study evaluating essential oils, including lavender, for treating children with eczema concluded that the oils added no benefit to therapeutic touch from the mother; in other words massage with and without essential oils was equally effective in improving the dry, scaly skin lesion.

The absolute & essential oils used in Aromatherapy are distilled from plants that
come from every continent on the globe. Each essential oil comes from a specific
plant. Each plant shares a vibrant aromatic energy.

Aromatherapy is the use of pure essential and absolute oils. Essential oils are complex, highly
fragrant and volatile substances, with varying degrees of complexity, fragrance, and volatility.
They are the most potent and concentrated extracts of various parts of flowers, fruits, leaves,
spices, roots, and woods. The plant's essence molecules are approximately 75-100 times more
concentrated as an essential oil than in the dried plant.

While in the plant, the essence molecules play a key role in the biochemistry of the plant --
they are located between the cells of the plant and these molecules act as regulators and
messengers. By giving the plant its aromatic essence, they are also thought to give the plant its
"life force". They also protect the plant from parasites and disease, and play an important role
in fertilization and assist the plant's adaptation to its environment.

To obtain essential oils the aromatic essence molecules of the plant must be captured by
using a technical distillation or extraction method. In earlier times, the art of distillation was
held in the hands of the few and was considered to be an alchemical transformation of spirit,
a bridge between the two realms.

The term "essential oil" is used somewhat loosely as it is often applied to all aromatic
products such as essence oils, absolutes, resinoids, and concretes. In Aromatherapy, the most
common method of extraction is steam distillation. However, cold expression is used for citrus
oils, and a method of solvent extraction for absolutes, concretes and resinoids. The newest
technological process of extraction is the hypercritical carbon dioxide method: in part due to
high cost, it is not as commonly available.
